Why I ditched Rockmelt

Postet for 428 days siden av Rune

So, I really like the new venture from Marc Andreessen – the Rockmelt browser. It’s snappy, easy to use and pleasing on the eyes. Most of that comes from using Chrome/Chromium as a base for the browser. The functionality is just perfect, it integrates as promised with both Twitter and Facebook, and it is by far the most socialised browser out there. In short – I like it. Les resten »

Dangit!

Postet for 566 days siden av Rune

If you are following the wp-hackers list you might have noticed a little thread regarding the new Dangit! function Matt got in the WordPress Core for the 3.0 release. This function corrects Wordpress to WordPress – without the possibility to opt-out for the user.

And as the saying goes – there is a plugin for that!

The plugin Dangit Control put you in charge. You get an extra option under the settings menu called “Dangit Control”, and from that you can decide where WordPress should NOT correct Matt’s itch :-)

To install, just copy the folder to the plugins folder and activate from the plugins menu. The plugin is GPL so feel free to change/modify/improve the code. There is also .po and .mo files with it, so if you want you can translate it. If you translate, I’d be very happy if you left me a comment with a link.

You can download it here! Have fun!

New plugin

Postet for 614 days siden av Rune ()

It has been a while since the last post on this blog – but the blog was not dead. I’ve been more active on my Norwegian blog and Twitter, but this blog is also alive :-)

So for the first post in a loooong time, we go for a new plugin. This plugin has been around for Norwegian users for a while, but now I’ve internationalized it. The standard language is English, but you get the .po and .mo files both for english and Norwegian with the zip file.

The plugin is TwitterInfo. It gives you some new Twitter functionality for your blog. Les resten »

A new home

Postet for 851 days siden av Rune ()

I’m in the process of moving all of my domains over to a VPS, and gathering some of my sites under one WordPress MU install. Thanks to Donnchas fantastic WordPress MU domain mapping plugin (Thanks Donncha!) that is  very easy! In that process, I’m discontinuing some features of this site. There will be no more forums for the plugins I’ve made – since nobody used that and they were just filling up my inbox with spam registrations anyway :-/

I’ve not dropped of the face of the earth, but the summer is not the most active time when it comes to blogging og development. I hope the fall and the comming winter will bring more in the development and blogging department!

Happy blogging to you all!

New WordPress MU plugin

Postet for 943 days siden av Rune ()

After reading the forum (http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic/12773), I thought I should make a free (GPL) based plugin that does much of the same as the one you pay for over at WPMUdev.org (http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/footer-content). The plugin let’s you users make their own footer, but it will strip the text for java etc, and let  html tags like strong, href etc work. Your site and themes footers will not be altered, the users footer will be after those.

I’ve made one English version, and one Norwegian. For Norwegian users, please have a look here. For the rest of you, get it here.

Hope you enjoy it, and please feel free to make it better or play with the code as you wish. I’ll give no support for this plugin. But if you really need some help, you could try the forum

If you find bugs or have othe req. for this plugin, please use the Trac!

It’s springtime

Postet for 1048 days siden av Rune ()

The springtime is here, and I needed to let this blog get a fresher and lighter theme. So here we go. The Sunshine theme is based on the previous theme I used (iNove), and comes with a lot of translations (.mo and .po files) so this is easy to install for all.

Well, thats it – now the spring and summer can come whenever they’re ready!

Argh

Postet for 1049 days siden av Rune ()

I just hate when there is server problems… On one of my sites there is a problem reading the DB, but the support staff can’t find any errors. The problem is it just “shows” it self when you’re logged in, but the site will not let you log in with a test users I’ve made just for those cases…

It’s a WPµ install, and it won’t update the DB or read (correctly) from it. It says it has no posts in the admin section, but it shows on the page. It says it has no comments on the post, but it shows on the widgets but not in the admin section. It says a user don’t exists but the DB shows the user…

It’s soooooooo frustrating!

What’s more annoying is that I have several sites with the same host, and all the others (including this) works like a charm – but they’re using different DB servers. So my conclusion is that there is something wrong with the DB server. I just hope they (the support staff) finds (and fixes) the problem!

Again, ARGH!

Free WordPress MU Google Analytics plugin

Postet for 1058 days siden av Rune ()

I notice that WPMUDEV.org would like you to buy (you need a premium membership) a WordPressMU plugin that lets you utilize Google Analytics on your WPMU install.

But why don’t you use a free plugin. I don’t know if they’re just re-branding a plugin, but it seems by the description to do just the same as the rafik_ga plugin. This is from the readme file

To set up Google Analytics on this site:
> Admin. Site> Google Analytics.
Paste the Google Analytics (in the form “UA-xxxxxxx-x”).

To set up Google Analytics on a specific blog, blog administrator can set his own blog:
> Options> Google Analytics.
Paste the Google Analytics (in the form “UA-xxxxxxx-x”).

That’s it!

Note: Make sure you have the wp_footer hook wp_footer(); in your footer.php or else it wont work.

This plugin works just fine with WPMU 2.7.1, and I’ve translated it to Norwegian, but it’s also available in English. You can download the Norwegian version or the English version from the links below. There is no .mo or .po file, so the translations have to be hardcoded.

So why pay when you don’t have to?

Just to clarify; WPMUDEV.org have their version integrated with another plugin you have to pay for… So there is a difference between the two versions!
